  • • Partnership with Telekom ensures comprehensive coverage across multiple platforms.

ARD and ZDF have confirmed their plans to broadcast a total of 60 matches from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the USA, Canada, and Mexico from June 11, 2026. This free-to-air coverage includes all games played by the German national team (if they qualify), the opening match, both semifinals, and the final. The remaining 44 matches, including knockout rounds such as eleven playoff games, two quarterfinals, and three round of 16 matches, will be exclusively shown by Magenta TV. Telekom holds the overall rights for all 104 tournament matches and collaborates with ARD and ZDF to ensure broad reach across platforms. The agreement, concluded eight months ahead of the tournament, aims to maintain public accessibility to key matches during economically challenging times, as emphasized by ZDF Director Dr. Norbert Himmler and ARD Sports Director Dr. Katrin Vernau. Both broadcasters also secured rights for the UEFA Euro 2028, where ARD and ZDF will show 34 matches, including those of Germany, while Magenta TV retains exclusive rights to 17 others. This partnership between public broadcasters and Telekom reflects a comprehensive strategy to balance exclusive pay-TV content with substantial free-to-air football coverage, enhancing communal viewing experience throughout Germany.
