Barnim Marks International Day Against Violence Toward Women with Awareness and Support Initiatives

On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the district of Barnim in Germany has launched a series of awareness campaigns and support activities to highlight the alarming fact that one in three women in Germany experiences violence. This violence can manifest physically, sexually, psychologically, or digitally, according to the German Institute for Human Rights.

From November 24 to 28, an information stand will be available at the New Town Hall, distributing flyers and discreet materials about the nationwide helpline number 116 016. This helpline offers anonymous, free support 24/7 in 17 different languages. Additionally, each evening, a facade projector will display helpline information on the town hall.

Bernau hosts its fourth Ladies Night on November 21, focusing on digital abuse, with screenings and discussions led by podcaster Sonja Koppitz. The Bernau city library also features a themed display starting November 21.

In Eberswalde, actions on November 25 include a creative public display of statistics by the FrauenNetzwerk Barnim, a flag-raising event at the University of Sustainable Development, and the inauguration of a pink bench symbolizing resistance to violence, inspired by Italy's "Panchina rossa" initiative. An exhibition entitled "Together Against Sexism" runs at the Eberswalde Town Hall until December 10, 2025.

Support organizations such as "für Frauen e. V." in Barnim offer further assistance to women and girls affected by violence. The campaigns aim to encourage reflection, participation, and provide accessible support resources during this critical awareness period.
