Bavarian Conference Highlights Rising Drone Threats to German Businesses and Infrastructure

Around 120 representatives from business sectors, critical infrastructure, and security authorities convened at Airbus Helicopters in Donauwörth for the event "Drohnenabwehr 2026," focusing on the escalating drone threats facing German businesses and crucial infrastructure. Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger emphasized the urgency, stating, "Drones have long become a real threat for the economy and critical infrastructure." The conference aimed to equip companies with legal and organizational clarity on detecting and defending against drones, highlighting available technical solutions and the importance of collaboration between businesses, research institutions, and security authorities.

This event, organized by Cluster Aerospace bavAIRia on behalf of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, addressed the rising number of drone intrusions at industrial sites and transport hubs. Despite advancements in drone detection technology, many companies face uncertainties about permissible legal actions and emergency cooperation with authorities. Experts delivered insights on technical detection methods, existing legal frameworks, and cooperative procedures to enhance operational security for critical infrastructure operators.

Minister Aiwanger underscored Bavaria's technological capabilities and the need for synchronized efforts to protect vital infrastructure effectively. The conference follows a December 2025 event focused on similar issues and forms part of Bavaria's strategic initiative to accelerate innovation adoption in security and drone technology, enhancing sustainable protection for Germany's economy and infrastructure.
