BSW-AfD Collaboration Talks and AfD’s Economic Positioning in Sachsen-Anhalt

Sahra Wagenknecht, founder of the BSW party, expressed openness to collaborate with any political group, including the AfD, willing to enact desired changes. The recent Sachsen-Anhalt election saw the AfD secure a dominant 43.8% of the vote, with BSW gaining just over 5%, positioning BSW as a potential ally for the AfD. Notably, 61% of workers in the state voted for the AfD, reflecting the party's strong social security credibility among working-class voters. Political scientist Philip Manow argued the AfD is shifting left economically, but a contrasting analysis highlights the party’s continued market-liberal, fiscally conservative stance favoring business-friendly policies and reduced government intervention.
