Cyber Resilience Act Poses Challenges and Opportunities for German SMEs in Nordschwarzwald

The Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), a new European legislation aimed at enforcing cybersecurity for digital products from their design stage, is stirring significant adjustments for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Germany's Nordschwarzwald region. Unlike previous regulations, this law imposes no exemptions for SMEs, mandating that manufacturers, importers, and traders secure their digital offerings against cyberattacks.

On September 29, 2026, the Transformationsnetzwerk (TraFoNetz) Nordschwarzwald will hold a free "Transformation Lounge" event at the IHK-Bildungszentrum in Nagold, focusing on the CRA's practical impact. Maria Rill, head of Cybersecurity and Law at the FZI Research Center for Information Technology, will lead the discussion, offering guidance on compliance strategies. The event is designed to address SMEs' particular challenges in adapting to these sweeping requirements.

Jochen Protzer, managing director of the Nordschwarzwald Economic Development Agency, highlighted that while the CRA brings robust compliance demands, it also presents an opportunity for companies to differentiate themselves competitively through enhanced cybersecurity standards. This approach aligns with the broader digital transformation agenda crucial for sustaining business competitiveness.

Participants of the event will gain insights into free support tools, including the "Digi-Check," which assesses a company's digital maturity, and the "CyberSicherheitsCheck," aimed at evaluating cybersecurity risks. The session will commence at 5:30 PM and will conclude with a networking opportunity. Registration is required online.
