DOSB Ranks Munich Top Among German Olympic Bid Proposals for Future Games

The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) has completed its evaluation of three strong candidate proposals to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games, with a decisive ranking favoring Munich ahead of Cologne-Rhine-Ruhr and Berlin+. According to the DOSB's assessment, all proposals are internationally competitive and financially viable, but Munich secured the highest score of 87.03 points, followed closely by Cologne-Rhine-Ruhr with 85.02 points, both earning 'very good' ratings. Berlin+ trailed with 74.64 points, rated as 'good'.

The evaluation process was comprehensive, involving collaboration with 42 Olympic federations and the German Disabled Sports Association. Key criteria included 'Vision & Legacy', 'Costs & Financing', 'Sporting & Operational Suitability', 'International Appeal & National Acceptance', and infrastructure considerations. DOSB President Thomas Weikert, who chaired the evaluation commission, praised the quality of the bids and expressed confidence in Germany's readiness to host the Games. He highlighted that all three concepts were suitable for successfully conducting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Germany.

The proposals will be further deliberated at an extraordinary DOSB general assembly in 2026, where the final decision on the host city for the 2036, 2040, or 2044 Olympics will be made. This selection process follows a member assembly resolution from 2025, emphasizing transparency and thorough expert analysis.

Overall, the DOSB's assessment signals a robust and competitive bidding landscape in Germany with Munich as the frontrunner, but the final choice will depend on further discussions and member voting later this year.
