The Federal Prosecutor's Office in Karlsruhe has taken over the investigation, classifying the incident as a serious attack on German infrastructure with suspicions of a detonated explosives attempt and interference with air traffic. The investigation, initially conducted by the Dresden Public Prosecutor's Office and the Saxony State Criminal Police, continues with assistance from the Federal Criminal Police Office and Federal Police, who safely removed the detonator using an explosive robot.

The airport incident also involved a cargo plane that aborted landing after colliding with a second unidentified drone, sustaining only minor damage.
