Female Representation in Bundesliga Top Management Sees Gradual Increase in 2025/2026 Season

For the 2025/2026 Bundesliga season, seven out of 36 clubs now feature at least one woman in a top management position, marking a modest but notable increase from the previous season when only four clubs did. The clubs with female leadership last season included FC Schalke 04, FC St. Pauli, 1. FC Heidenheim, and Werder Bremen. New entrants such as Borussia Dortmund, Union Berlin, and RB Leipzig have since added women to their top management teams, reflecting gradual progress toward greater gender diversity.

According to an interview with FKM, Haenni highlighted ongoing challenges related to the hesitancy male decision-makers exhibit when considering female candidates, primarily due to a lack of prior experience working with women in senior roles. This hesitance often stems from uncertainty about female contributions and unfamiliarity with their potential impact in leadership.

The progression from four to seven clubs with women in top management illustrates a slow but positive trend toward inclusivity within German professional football. However, the pace of change remains cautious, as male leaders still grapple with integrating women into prominent governance roles across the Bundesliga landscape.
