Forest Fire Near Schramberg Expands Rapidly Amid Challenging Conditions

A forest fire that began near Schramberg in the Rottweil district on Sunday evening has rapidly spread to approximately ten hectares due to strong winds and unfavorable weather, according to reports. Firefighters are facing significant difficulties accessing the blaze because of the rugged terrain, complicating suppression efforts.

Over 200 emergency personnel and 35 vehicles from the Rottweil district and surrounding areas are actively engaged in combating the fire. Support is being provided by organizations including the Technical Relief Organization, the German Red Cross, and the police, with additional aid from local farmers supplying water. To conserve municipal drinking water, firefighting teams are sourcing water from a fire extinguishing section and the public swimming pool in nearby Tennenbronn. A police helicopter and drone equipped with thermal imaging technology are assisting the operation.

Authorities indicate no immediate danger to the local population. However, parts of the fire near Tennenbronn and Schramberg remain dynamic, while a static flank has been established toward Lauterbach. As a precaution, residents in the Schramberg Valley, Sulgen, Tennenbronn, and Lauterbach areas have been advised to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off air conditioning and ventilation systems.

The wildfire response continues as emergency services strive to contain the fire despite the challenging conditions imposed by the terrain and weather.
