Germany's defense sector is witnessing notable growth, particularly in the state of Niedersachsen, driven by increased military spending amid ongoing global conflicts such as the Ukraine war and tensions involving Iran. In Niedersachsen, approximately 30,000 jobs are tied to the defense manufacturing sector, which, while smaller than the automotive industry workforce, demonstrates strong dynamism. About 400 companies in the region actively network to grow their military goods business. Firms like Aljo, based in Berne with 350 employees, are at the forefront, producing advanced products such as the remotely controlled underwater drone "Seefuchs," designed to address naval mine threats heightened by current maritime conflicts. Aljo aims to boost its defense-related revenue share from 35% to 50%, responding to unprecedented demand and tight delivery schedules.

Similarly, Nass Magnet in Hannover reports a significant rise in military orders since the war in Ukraine began, reflecting a broader movement of companies diversifying into defense to offset challenges in other sectors like automotive supply. Industry associations note that the previously tightly controlled defense market is gradually opening, providing more opportunities for suppliers to enter.

This expansion represents a strategic shift for many German companies amid economic pressures. The defense sector emerges as a viable alternative growth avenue, with roughly one in six German companies already seeking opportunities in the military market. The increased defense spend is transforming the region's industrial landscape by fostering innovation, driving job creation, and enhancing regional economic stability.
