Germany and Netherlands Expand Joint Order for Boxer RCT 30 Armored Vehicles

Germany's Bundeswehr and the Netherlands have jointly increased their procurement of Boxer RCT 30 armored vehicles, underscoring a significant step in European defense cooperation. The latest order adds 69 new Boxer RCT 30 units, with Germany receiving 35 and the Netherlands 34, raising the Bundeswehr's total commitment to 150 vehicles. This order is managed through the European defense procurement agency OCCAR, which facilitates multinational defense programs among member states including Germany and the Netherlands.

The Boxer RCT 30 features a 30mm turret adapted from the Puma infantry fighting vehicle, capable of engaging moving targets while on the move. This capability was highlighted as enhancing operational effectiveness. The manufacturing is led by the pan-European defense company KNDS, formed through the merger of Nexter and Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, which employs nearly 11,000 people and projects €4.4 billion in revenue for 2025.

KNDS emphasizes the importance of interoperability and standardization, noting that joint procurement efforts not only expedite delivery times but also harmonize training, logistics, and operational integration across European forces. Florian Hohenwarter, head of KNDS Germany, remarked that such cooperation positively impacts military readiness by ensuring systems can operate seamlessly within allied forces.

With an order backlog of €33.1 billion as of December 2025, KNDS is committed to developing advanced mission solutions that integrate manned and unmanned systems, supporting over 40 armies worldwide. The Boxer procurement exemplifies their focus on innovative, interoperable land defense technologies that enhance European defense sovereignty.
