Germany Boosts Humanitarian Aid to Sudan by €20 Million Amid Ongoing Conflict

On April 16, 2026, marking the third anniversary of the war in Sudan, Germany announced a significant increase in humanitarian aid, adding €20 million to its existing support for the crisis-hit region. In a conference held in Berlin, hosted jointly with the European Union, France, the UK, the USA, and the African Union, the German government emphasized the urgent need to promote a ceasefire and expand assistance to those suffering in Sudan.

Development Minister Reem Alabali Radovan highlighted the immense hardships endured by the Sudanese people over three years of conflict, focusing particularly on women and children. She noted the remarkable resilience of women, who have taken on vital roles in sustaining families and communities amid widespread instability.

Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has allocated €155.4 million for projects in Sudan and neighboring countries through the end of 2025 and confirmed the additional €20 million commitment for 2026. The funds aim to improve access to essential services such as water, healthcare, education, and nutrition, while also fostering social cohesion and supporting self-determined lives for those affected.

This strengthened support reflects Germany’s broader development cooperation strategy, emphasizing the importance of laying foundations for a peaceful future in the region through targeted aid and international collaboration.
