Germany Leads European Hydrogen Mobility Ecosystem for Heavy-Duty Trucks by 2030

Germany is setting a new benchmark in Europe's green transport sector by uniting leading companies to develop a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem tailored for heavy-duty trucks, with ambitions to achieve full commercialization by 2030. This unprecedented collaboration includes automotive giants Daimler Truck, Volvo Group, Toyota Motor Corporation, and key industry stakeholders Bosch, Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, TEAL Mobility, and MB Energy.

The initiative aims to build an integrated hydrogen supply chain that covers all crucial facets—from vehicle manufacturing to customer-friendly refueling infrastructure. A key feature is the strategic rollout of hydrogen refueling stations along important European freight corridors, synchronized with the deployment of hydrogen-powered truck fleets. Ensuring hydrogen is accessible at competitive prices is central to enabling customers to benefit from total cost-effective operation of these vehicles.

This alliance underscores the necessity of a fully integrated ecosystem that complements existing battery-electric mobility solutions. It highlights the importance of coordination across the entire value chain: scaling up competitive hydrogen trucks, placing refueling stations according to customer needs, and guaranteeing reliable and economical hydrogen supply.
