Germany Recognized for AI Innovations in Government Services and Advances Digital Sovereignty with Deutschland-Stack

Germany recently received international acclaim at the World Government Summit in Dubai, winning the award for "Best Use of AI in Government Services." This honor celebrates an AI system developed by the Federal Ministry for Digital and State Modernization (BMDS), initiated by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, designed to accelerate planning and approval processes for infrastructure projects, especially in hydrogen infrastructure. According to Federal Digital Minister Dr. Karsten Wildberger, the AI solution reduces typical multi-month approval timelines to mere days, improving efficiency while maintaining human legal oversight. Implemented first in Hamburg, this AI platform is now offered as open-source to encourage nationwide adoption and integration. Parallel to this, Germany is advancing digital sovereignty through the Deutschland-Stack initiative, which addresses the challenge companies face between relying on international AI cloud solutions that risk data sovereignty and losing technological competitiveness. The Deutschland-Stack provides a secure, high-performance digital environment adhering to German and European standards. It combines multiple technological layers—from infrastructure, including Telekom’s fiber connectivity and Europe’s largest cyber-defense center, to platform management via SAP’s Business Technology Platform which facilitates AI usage, to application layers tailored for industries and public institutions. With over 10,000 NVIDIA GPUs providing computational power and Siemens demonstrating industrial benefits through real-time cloud simulations, the Deutschland-Stack exemplifies Germany's commitment to sovereign, secure, and cutting-edge AI technology ecosystems. Together, these achievements underscore Germany’s drive to lead in AI administration efficiency and digital sovereignty, setting models for government modernization and industrial innovation moving forward.
