Gladbach's Mixed Season Under Polanski: Good Runs but Struggles Against Top Teams

Borussia Mönchengladbach, under coach Eugen Polanski, has shown moments of promise but continues to face challenges in the 2025 Bundesliga season. The team recently ended the year with a 0-2 loss to Borussia Dortmund, marking their second consecutive defeat after previously being unbeaten in five matches, including four wins. While Gladbach has remained undefeated in five games under Polanski, they have yet to secure a victory against any of the Bundesliga's top ten teams this season. Most of their four wins in 15 matches came against lower-ranked teams, with three against sides battling relegation and one against 11th-placed 1. FC Köln.

Defender Kevin Diks, who has played 15 matches and scored two penalty goals since joining last summer, reflected on the recent loss. He noted a poor start but said the team performed solidly after the opening 15 minutes, although they failed to capitalize on opportunities. This lack of finishing, especially in key moments, has been a recurring issue. Vice-captain Rocco Reitz also highlighted the need to improve results against stronger opponents, emphasizing that the squad's ambition must include wins over top-tier rivals.

Looking ahead, Gladbach will take a winter break from December 21 to January 1 and will hold a mini-training camp in Belek, Turkey, from January 2 to 5. Their next Bundesliga fixture is scheduled for January 11 against FC Augsburg.
