The match began challenging for Hertha as Dynamo Dresden took an early lead in the 10th minute through Patrice Covic, the son of former Hertha coach Ante Covic. However, Jón Dagur Thorsteinsson delivered a standout performance by scoring both goals for Hertha—equalizing in the 29th minute and netting the winning goal in the 80th.

The game itself, however, remained competitive and without major incidents, a stark contrast to a chaotic match between the clubs six months prior.

Thorsteinsson credited his scoring success to dedicated training with goalkeeper coach Andreas Menger, showcasing the hard work contributing to Hertha's ongoing positive results. Following the match, the traditional celebration with a late-night Döner underscored the team's momentum on their record-chasing run.
