Julian Nagelsmann Strengthens German National Team Coaching Staff with Alfred Schreuder Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Julian Nagelsmann, head coach of the German national football team, has reinforced his coaching squad by appointing Alfred Schreuder as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, according to the German Football Association (DFB). Schreuder, aged 53, brings extensive experience to the team and previously collaborated successfully with Nagelsmann at TSG Hoffenheim. Nagelsmann expressed high regard for Schreuder, stating, "I value Alfred as a coach and a person very much. His experience is an enormous asset for our team with regard to the upcoming World Cup." This appointment allows set-piece coach Mads Buttgereit to dedicate his focus exclusively to set-piece training, a facet Nagelsmann considers crucial for the tournament.

Schreuder will participate in the forthcoming international friendlies against Switzerland on March 27 and Ghana on March 30. The coaching team also includes assistants Benjamin Glück and Benjamin Hübner, goalkeeper coaches Andreas Kronenberg and Andreas Wessels, along with fitness coaches Nicklas Dietrich and Krunoslav Banovcic. Schreuder remarked on his inclusion by saying, "It is a great honor that Julian and his team asked me to support them at the World Cup."
