Kero GmbH & Co. KG Files for Insolvency Amid Construction Sector Crisis

Laupheim-based scaffolding manufacturer Kero GmbH & Co. KG has filed for insolvency at the Ravensburg District Court, with a preliminary insolvency administrator appointed on August 21 to safeguard company assets. The insolvency reflects ongoing severe challenges in the German construction industry, marked by a pronounced decline in construction activities from 2022 to 2024, affecting Kero’s business especially in residential and high-rise building sectors, according to company lawyer Armin Schneider.

Rising energy, fuel, and personnel costs have exacerbated Kero's financial difficulties. Although business operations have temporarily halted, outstanding orders exist, and the company is receiving new inquiries. Administrator Oliver Bauer highlighted that Kero might attract investors, but it's uncertain whether the company will close or continue.

Plans are underway to secure pre-financing insolvency payments to cover salaries for Kero's 16 employees for August through October, pending approval from the employment agency, ensuring workers receive due wages amid proceedings expected to start formally on November 1. This insolvency case underscores the wider, persistent economic pressures on German construction firms over recent years.
