Klopp Makes Tactical Changes and Key Player Omissions for Germany's Nations League Match Against Greece

As Germany prepares for its Nations League clash against Greece in Augsburg, head coach Jürgen Klopp has announced a series of squad adjustments, tactical shifts, and player rotation plans. This will be Klopp’s second match at the helm after a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands.

One of the most notable changes is the omission of defender Nico Schlotterbeck from the squad to allow him to recover from a severe ankle injury sustained during the World Cup. Schlotterbeck, who completed the previous match in full and was returning from injury, will be rested but expected back for upcoming fixtures against Serbia and Greece. In his place, Yann Aurel Bisseck of Inter Milan is set to fill the defensive role alongside Jonathan Tah, who continues to lead the backline. Max Rosenfelder from SC Freiburg also remains part of the squad.

Klopp is planning extensive rotation following the Greece match, with the potential to swap almost the entire team for subsequent games. This strategy is reflected in the inclusion of new faces such as Bambasé Conté from Hoffenheim, who had been cut from the squad for the Netherlands fixture due to a 23-player limit but is now set to make his debut. Additionally, Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Burkardt have been called up early because of injuries to Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz; however, Klopp ruled out starting them after just a single training session together.

In goal, Alexander Nübel will start instead of Marc-André ter Stegen. Nübel’s recent strong performance at Besiktas Istanbul, including six clean sheets from six matches, influenced this decision.

The potential starting lineup also includes Nathaniel Brown, expected to partner Jonathan Tah in defense, and midfielders Joshua Kimmich and Felix Nmecha providing stability. The attack may feature Kevin Schade and Karim Adeyemi, known for their pace and scoring abilities. Klopp remains optimistic about the squad’s prospects, making tactical adaptations to player fitness and previous performances to strengthen the team dynamics against Greece.
