Lars Klingbeil Leads Global Fight Against Right-Wing Populism at Barcelona Summit

At an international summit in Barcelona, SPD Chairman Lars Klingbeil joined numerous progressive and leftist heads of state to collectively address the rising threat of right-wing populism and authoritarianism. The summit, spearheaded by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, focused on defending democracy and reinforcing multilateralism on a global scale.

Sánchez underscored the dangers facing the multilateral system and called for reform of the United Nations, advocating especially for appointing a female leader at its helm. In his address, Klingbeil emphasized that democracy is not guaranteed and must be vigilantly protected, highlighting how the global right is "well-organized" and gaining ground even in Germany with the AfD party.

Klingbeil called for enhanced cooperation among progressive forces across countries, urging unity and solidarity to combat divisiveness. He stressed, "The future belongs to those who build bridges rather than those who sow division." The summit underlined the growing influence of right-wing parties in Europe and the necessity for coordinated international responses to these challenges.
