Former DFB sports director Matthias Sammer has delivered a pointed critique of the current state of German football, calling for decisive leadership and streamlined reforms. Speaking at the 'Sky Sport Impuls' panel in Munich, Sammer lamented that German football has become timid, saying, "We have become cowards," emphasizing the need for courage and determination to succeed.

Sammer expressed strong optimism about Per Mertesacker, the incoming sports director of the Deutscher Fußball-Bund (DFB), as a central figure who must assert himself with clear vision and authority to drive change. According to Sammer, "I eagerly await Per Mertesacker" to take up this challenge.
