Key details
As Germany continues its efforts to raise mental health awareness this autumn, notable community initiatives are underway. From October 14 to 16, the 16th Mental Health Days will take place in Darmstadt-Dieburg with 25 municipalities and institutions participating. The opening on October 14 will be led by Dr. Anka Martin, director of the health department, emphasizing open discussions on mental health. A highlight on October 15 features a documentary screening and discussion on the portrayal of psychiatry in the media at Groß-Umstadt's Kreisklinik, with participation from hr-moderator Philipp Engel and chief physician Prof. Dr. Thomas Wobrock. Various workshops, including "Healing Singing" at the Caritas psychiatric center and discussions around the socio-economic aspects of illness, contribute to the diverse program aimed at destigmatizing mental health issues.
Complementing these events, on November 3, the DRK-Kinderklinik in Siegen will host a free seminar addressing mental health in children and adolescents amidst crises. Led by Dr. Debora Nawrath, senior physician and head of the KJP-Ambulanz, the seminar titled "Only burdened or already ill?" will explore whether young people are simply stressed or suffering from mental illness. Dr. Nawrath highlighted that crises cause considerable psychological stress for youth worried about their futures, underlining the importance of mental well-being for their development. Following her presentation, attendees can engage in a Q&A session.
These initiatives demonstrate Germany's commitment to fostering awareness and education on mental health across age groups and communities.
