Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 Engages Communities Across German Regions

The 2026 Mental Health Awareness Week is actively underway in several German regions, emphasizing wider public engagement and awareness on mental health issues. In Kreis Segeberg, Schleswig-Holstein, the initiative began on September 29 and runs until October 10 under the theme "Miteinander statt nebeneinander - für eine Gesellschaft, in der jede Psyche zählt" (Together rather than side by side - for a society where every psyche counts). The program includes readings, workshops, group walks, and specialized activities such as a cannabis escape room and a drunkenness goggles course aimed at addiction prevention. Jan Peter Schröder, the district administrator of Segeberg, highlighted the importance of expanding mental health discourse in society. This marks the fourth consecutive year Kreis Segeberg has taken part in the nationwide campaign, which is also observed in other districts like Pinneberg and Stormarn.

Meanwhile, in Bielefeld, the 11th edition of the Mental Health Awareness Week runs from October 9 to 16 with roughly 60 organizations participating. The event centers on the motto "Im Dialog statt im Dunkeln – psychische Gesundheit geht uns alle an" (In dialogue instead of in the dark – mental health concerns us all). Highlights include a collective singing event with local football club Arminia Bielefeld symbolizing "Gemeinsam singen - gemeinsam stärker" (singing together, stronger together) and a cultural showcase titled "Stage of the Art" at Bunker Ulmenwall. The week concludes with a SAMS venue event focusing on mental health in the context of leisure and nightlife. All events are free and open to all age groups.

These coordinated efforts across regions illustrate a comprehensive drive to integrate mental health topics more deeply within public consciousness, employing diverse formats to reach a broad audience.
