Mocopinus GmbH & Co. KG Declares Insolvency After 161 Years, 270 Jobs at Risk

Mocopinus GmbH & Co. KG, a traditional wood company with a 161-year history based in Baden-Württemberg, has announced its insolvency, leading to the closure of its operations and the loss of approximately 270 jobs. The company, which filed for insolvency proceedings in December 2025, was unable to find an investor despite intensive efforts during its self-administration restructuring process.

The closure affects the company's three German production sites located in Karlsruhe, Ammelshain, and Ulm. While operations at these sites will wind down as planned, existing customer orders will still be fulfilled in the coming months. However, the company's subsidiary, Lignum-Finish GmbH, remains unaffected by the closure and is currently in discussions regarding its future.

CEO Ulrich Braig expressed profound regret over the company's fate, stating, “This is an extremely bitter day for Mocopinus and our employees.” The shutdown marks a significant moment for the centuries-old firm, reflecting the challenges traditional manufacturing companies face in today’s economic environment.

Despite attempts at rescuing the company through restructuring, no viable solution or investor was found to continue the operations, resulting in the unavoidable job losses for the company’s workforce of about 270 employees. As the production sites close, the impact on the local economies and the skilled workers within the wood manufacturing sector will be significant.

Mocopinus’s anticipation to maintain operations for outstanding orders indicates a commitment to customers amid the company’s difficult circumstances, while the future of the subsidiary Lignum-Finish GmbH remains to be seen based on ongoing talks.
