Police Shoot Armed Man in Ansbach After Threatening Officers with Knife

In Ansbach, Bavaria, a police officer shot a 47-year-old man late on Saturday evening, December 7, 2025, after the man attacked officers with a knife. The incident began around 11 PM when the man was reportedly violent in his mother’s apartment on Platenstraße. His mother escaped and alerted the police through a neighbor.

Upon arrival, officers found the man armed with a knife. They retreated and called for backup as the man continued holding the weapon. When reinforcements arrived, the man advanced toward the officers despite instructions to drop the knife. A warning shot was fired but failed to deter him, prompting one officer to shoot the man in the leg. He received medical aid on-site and was then transported to a local hospital. He is currently in stable condition, and his injuries are not life-threatening.

The operation involved about 30 police officers, and the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (LKA) has taken over the investigation. The motive behind the man's violent behavior remains unknown.
