Ralf Fährmann Announces Retirement from Professional Football at 37

Ralf Fährmann, the veteran German goalkeeper, has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 37. The announcement came via transfermarkt.de, with Fährmann reflecting on a career predominantly spent at Schalke 04, where he played 212 Bundesliga games and 15 in the second division. Since leaving Schalke last summer, Fährmann had remained without a club and revealed that he declined offers that did not excite him.

Starting his youth career in Chemnitz, Fährmann joined Schalke’s U17 team in 2005 and only briefly ventured to clubs such as Eintracht Frankfurt, Norwich City, and SK Brann. Over his career, he played sixteen Champions League matches and was part of the Schalke squad that finished second in the Bundesliga in 2018.

Known more as a hard worker than a naturally talented player, Fährmann expressed gratitude for the support from fans throughout his career. However, he also voiced disappointment at never receiving an international call-up, stating, "Based on my performances, I felt I deserved at least one cap."
