Rapid Social and Political Change Tops German Public's Concerns, Survey Reveals

A recent Ipsos survey conducted on behalf of Allianz highlights that half of Germans identify rapid social and political change as their greatest concern. This pervasive worry includes issues such as social injustice, growing polarization, fears of war, and the stability of global democracies. Following societal change, health and financial challenges rank as the second and third most pressing worries, cited by 44% and 43% of respondents respectively.

Klaus-Peter Röhler, Allianz's executive board member, emphasized that these concerns reflect genuine anxieties rather than vague sentiments. The survey also sheds light on generational differences: 57% of Baby Boomers (born 1945-1965) express heightened apprehension about social change, although health concerns are prioritized by those over 60.

Interestingly, the survey found that Germans place more emphasis on societal change than respondents in countries like Brazil, France, and the UK, where other issues such as security, housing, jobs, environment, and education dominate public concern.

This comprehensive data reveals a German public increasingly worried about the pace of political and social transformation at home and abroad, pointing to widespread apprehension about the future societal landscape and democratic stability.
