Robert Habeck Denies Political Comeback and New Party Plans, Reflects Critically on German Politics

Robert Habeck, former Vice Chancellor and Economics Minister of Germany, has publicly dismissed rumors of founding a new political party and returning to active politics. In a detailed interview with Caren Miosga on ARD, Habeck addressed speculation involving a possible collaboration with Volker Wissing, emphasizing, "There is nothing to it," and calling such rumors "nonsense." He recounted that he had received about one hundred inquiries about this speculation but firmly stated he has no desire or plans to re-enter politics.

Instead, Habeck is focused on promoting his new book, 'Arctic Meltdown: Die Neuvermessung der Welt,' which explores global interests in the Arctic. He plans to engage in discussions on this topic in the coming weeks.

Reflecting on Germany's current political landscape, Habeck critiqued the crisis of the political center and acknowledged mistakes made by the Ampel coalition during his tenure. He noted his newfound freedom to critique political developments without the constraints of decision-making responsibility. The interview also touched upon the role of Friedrich Merz in the current political dynamics.

Although Habeck remains loyal to the Green Party and recognizes the public's yearning for renewed political consensus, he left the door open for speculation about future leadership possibilities but reiterated that, at present, he cannot imagine a political return.
