Russia Escalates Threats Against Germany Amid Security Crackdown

Tensions between Germany and Russia have intensified following the discovery of a Russian drone loaded with explosives near Halle/Leipzig airport and the unearthing of a weapons depot on the outskirts of Berlin. Dmitri Medwedew, deputy head of Russia's Security Council, openly threatened Germany with retaliatory strikes targeting its military production facilities and parts of Berlin, framing Germany's government as "neonazi" and "extremely Russophobic." He dismissed German claims about the drone incident as fabricated, echoing President Vladimir Putin’s assertions.

In direct response to the security threats, Germany has announced stringent countermeasures, including the closure of the Russian consulate in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin, institutions suspected of espionage and involvement in disinformation campaigns. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt and Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul attributed responsibility to Russia and underscored the need for robust actions.
