Severe Storm Devastates Bodenseeregion as Germany Prepares for Further Thunderstorms

A severe storm recently battered the Bodenseeregion, particularly impacting Bohlingen and surrounding areas, causing significant damage and disruption. According to Mario Dutzi, commander of the Singen volunteer fire department, approximately 200 emergency sites were reported in Bohlingen alone. Around 100 buildings sustained damage, one house became uninhabitable forcing six residents into hotels, and one injury was recorded. Emergency response involved 300 firefighters, 10 aerial ladders, and numerous rescue units to clear fallen trees obstructing the Aach river, mitigating flood risks. The storm forced the cancellation of the traditional Sichelhenke Bohlingen festival and disrupted train services between Singen and Konstanz due to damaged overhead lines, with bus services deployed as replacements.

The wider Bodenseeregion and parts of East Switzerland experienced severe winds, with gusts reaching 142 km/h in Schaffhausen. The Hegau region reported extensive tree falls and damage to farms, notably a Friedrichshafen orchard.

Looking ahead, the German Weather Service forecasts further severe thunderstorms beginning Sunday night, starting in the southwest and moving eastward through Monday. Rain and wind are expected to dominate, with temperatures ranging from 23°C in the northwest to 25°C in the east and south. The start of the week will be changeable, with heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms, especially in the northwest, before weather conditions improve with mostly dry skies by Tuesday.

Cleanup and emergency response efforts continue in the storm-affected areas as authorities prepare for more unsettled weather across Germany.
