St. Joseph Hospital in Prüm Declares Insolvency, Raising Healthcare Concerns in Eifel Region

The St. Joseph Hospital in Prüm has announced it will enter self-administration insolvency, a move that has prompted concern from political and healthcare leaders in Rhineland-Palatinate. Health Minister Clemens Hoch expressed regret over the development, emphasizing the hospital's vital role in providing inpatient care to patients across the Eifel region. He highlighted that the facility works closely with the Marienhaus Klinikum in Bitburg, underscoring the importance of maintaining patient care throughout the insolvency proceedings.

Landrat Andreas Kruppert voiced surprise and alarm at the announcement, calling the hospital indispensable for medical services in the area, including emergency treatment and outpatient offerings. He stressed the need for all stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring the hospital's survival, particularly to provide stability and clarity for its staff.

Minister Hoch announced plans to engage with various parties involved, including the insolvency administrator, the former operator, and representatives from the Eifelkreis, to develop strategies to sustain and improve healthcare services. A roundtable meeting is scheduled to take place in Mainz to discuss next steps and secure the hospital's future.
