CDU Outlines Economic and Administrative Reform Agenda for 2026 Sachsen-Anhalt Election

As the 2026 Sachsen-Anhalt state election approaches on September 6, the CDU, led by Ministerpräsident Sven Schulze, has unveiled a campaign strategy centered on economic growth, education reform, and administrative efficiency. Schulze emphasized ambitions to position Sachsen-Anhalt as a premier pharmaceutical hub in Europe, announcing an upcoming pharmaceutical summit at the state chancellery. The CDU’s platform, unanimously approved by party delegates, includes heightened internal security measures, stricter migration policies, and major educational reforms such as increasing economics education in schools and establishing practical learning days to forge stronger ties between educational institutions and businesses.

In addition to economic and educational priorities, Schulze highlighted the need for an administrative reform aimed at making government operations more efficient and faster, including plans to expand the state police force to more than 8,000 personnel. Despite being behind the AfD in current polls, Schulze expressed confidence in connecting with voters and combating voter disenchantment.

The campaign has not been without controversy. A widely circulated photo showing CDU’s Guido Heuer with AfD leader Ulrich Siegmund led to speculation about potential post-election collaboration. Schulze firmly denied any intentions of cooperating with the AfD or the Left Party, underscoring the CDU’s commitment to avoid such alliances.

Schulze also emphasized the CDU’s goal to unite rather than divide the populace, promoting an open-minded and cooperative approach. His calls for educational reforms include introducing ‘Praxislerntage,’ practical learning days to strengthen links between businesses and schools, alongside increased economics instruction in gymnasiums.
