Germany Responds to US Plan to Withdraw 5,000 Troops Amid Strategic and Political Tensions

The US administration under President Donald Trump announced plans to withdraw around 5,000 soldiers from Germany within the next six to twelve months, marking a significant shift in the American military footprint in Europe. This comes amidst tensions related to US-Iran relations and Germany's differing stance on the conflict. As of late 2024, Germany hosts 36,436 active US military personnel across various major bases including Ramstein, Grafenwöhr, and Wiesbaden, which play critical roles in NATO operations and Middle East missions.
