In response to a rising wave of virus infections, hospitals in southeastern Brandenburg have implemented temporary visitation bans to curb the spread of illnesses. The Lausitz Klinik Forst in the Spree-Neiße district has imposed a visitation ban effective until February 6, while the Diakoniekrankenhaus Naëmi Wilke in Guben has restricted visitors since January 30, continuing the ban until Saturday. This measure responds to a significant seasonal increase in virus-related cases, especially those linked to gastrointestinal diseases and influenza.

Despite the bans, the hospitals allow visits under exceptional circumstances with prior arrangements. Patients can still receive personal items delivered to the wards to support their well-being. Medical experts emphasize the importance of rigorous hand hygiene and minimizing close contact with infected individuals, noting that patients may remain contagious for several days after symptoms diminish.

The situation in neighboring Berlin also shows an uptick in influenza cases, with health officials closely monitoring developments. However, Berlin faces additional challenges during winter, such as icy sidewalks and infrastructural concerns unrelated to the hospital visitation restrictions in Brandenburg.
