KLS Martin Invests in Sustainable Expansion, Creating 220 New Jobs in Mühlheim

KLS Martin, a longstanding medical technology company based in Mühlheim since 1896, is embarking on a major expansion with the construction of a new office building and cafeteria at its largest site. This development is expected to generate 220 new jobs, adding to the company's current workforce of 650 employees. The new two-story office will provide approximately 3,000 square meters of modern workspace, primarily to accommodate around 100 engineers who currently face space constraints. A key feature is the cafeteria, designed to serve 400 meals daily for Mühlheim staff initially and later supply other company locations.

Architecturally, the building will promote sustainability through its unique terraced design and wood construction, utilizing about 2,400 cubic meters of mainly local coniferous wood. The design minimizes earth movement and uses wooden steles for the foundation to reduce CO₂ emissions. At roughly nine meters tall, the structure will align aesthetically with surrounding residential buildings. The project, led by Barkow-Leibinger architects with project leader Julian Hipp, is currently awaiting approval and funding, aiming to start construction in May with completion expected by the first quarter of 2028.

Local officials have expressed strong support for the investment, highlighting its positive economic impact on Mühlheim and the surrounding region. The project reflects KLS Martin's commitment to sustainable growth and innovation while addressing critical workspace and workforce expansion needs.
