Left Party Demands Comprehensive Policy Action to Combat School Violence in Germany

Nicole Gohlke, deputy chair and education policy spokesperson for the Left Party in the Bundestag, has criticized ongoing school violence as a consequence of failed political strategies. Commenting on the "Berliner Konflikt- und Gewaltbarometer," Gohlke highlighted that many children from disadvantaged backgrounds experience frustration that often manifests in violent behavior at schools. She emphasized the urgent need for well-equipped, multi-professional teams in schools, including social workers and school psychologists, to provide individual support to children and their families.

Gohlke further insisted on mandatory, practical training in conflict resolution and de-escalation for teachers, which should be integrated into their educational curriculum. She argued for a stronger political commitment to easing family burdens by providing free childcare and schooling, alongside social benefits aligned with basic living standards. These measures, she asserts, would help children grow up in safety and without existential worries.

In a related political context, Luigi Pantisano, the new leader of the Left Party, recently faced backlash for equating CDU policies with fascism but apologized, acknowledging the need to distinguish between democratic opponents and extremist politics. Despite the apology, CDU leaders rejected it and called for his resignation, deepening political tensions.
