Theo Müller Proposes CDU Minority Government Backed by AfD to Revitalize Germany

Theo Müller, the 86-year-old majority shareholder of the Müller dairy group and an AfD supporter, has called on Chancellor Friedrich Merz to form a CDU minority government supported by the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) following the party's electoral success in Sachsen-Anhalt. In an interview with Welt am Sonntag, Müller regarded the AfD's success as a clear signal from the electorate that the current political approach is unsustainable and urged the removal of the SPD from government. He believes that a coalition of CDU and AfD would pave the way for Germany's recovery.

While Müller is aligned with many AfD positions, he opposes extreme measures like Germany exiting the EU or the Euro. He specifically criticized the debate on the AfD's "Remigration" policy, clarifying it concerns the departure of illegal residents rather than broad anti-immigration measures. Economically, Müller advocates for stringent reforms including a government debt ban, ending the Energiewende—Germany's energy transition—highlighting that its costs have already reached an estimated 500 billion euros with projections of five trillion euros by 2050, and reducing subsidies.

Additionally, Müller calls for tougher migration policies as well as a halt to development aid and Germany's support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. He congratulated AfD leader Alice Weidel on her party's achievements in Sachsen-Anhalt, emphasizing that the citizens sent a strong message for change. This proposal represents a significant potential shift in the German political landscape, proposing collaboration with the controversial AfD to address complex national challenges.
