Federal and State Governments Agree on Unified Germany Stack Platform Core

During the spring meeting of the IT Planning Council on March 18, 2026, the federal and state governments of Germany reached a significant milestone by agreeing on the key points for a unified platform core of the Germany Stack digital platform. This platform, developed to standardize digital services and interactions with the state, will provide uniform solutions for identification, data exchange, payment processing, notifications, and data retrieval.

Dr. Markus Richter, Secretary of State in the Federal Ministry for Digital and State Modernization, emphasized the importance of this decision, stating that the standards developed through extensive consultations with politics, business, science, and civil society are now binding for federal, state, and municipal governments. He highlighted the agreement as a "pioneering decision" marking a new beginning for cross-level digital cooperation.

The Germany Stack aims to enable citizens and businesses to interact with state authorities in a streamlined and bureaucracy-light manner regardless of their residence in Germany. The platform’s foundations include modern technologies with artificial intelligence and semantic integration from the outset, ensuring a forward-looking digital infrastructure.
